Dayton Celebration Chorus

Where voices, friendships, and music come together. The Dayton Celebration Chorus welcomes adults who enjoy singing, building community, and sharing joyful performances throughout the Miami Valley.

If you love to sing — or think you might — you are in the right place.

The Dayton Celebration Chorus brings together adults from across the Miami Valley who enjoy making music, building friendships, and performing for the community.

Rehearsals are filled with laughter, learning, and great music. Members explore a wide variety of choral styles, grow in confidence, and experience the excitement of performing in welcoming venues throughout the year.

Chorus at a glance

A welcoming choral experience for adults who want to sing, learn, connect, and perform.

No Audition Required

Adults of all ages are welcome. Prior choral experience is helpful but not required.

Weekly Rehearsals

Rehearsals are typically held on Tuesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Session-Based

Fall and spring sessions are typically 10 weeks. Summer is typically a 6-week session.

Community Performances

Members share music through concerts, seasonal traditions, and community events.

About the Dayton Celebration Chorus

The Dayton Celebration Chorus offers adults who enjoy singing the opportunity to enhance their vocal skills alongside music lovers from across the Miami Valley.

In keeping with the University of Dayton’s tradition of providing noncredit offerings for adult learners, the Chorus has been affiliated with the UD Office of Special Programs and Continuing Education since 2014.

Under the direction of a professionally trained director, the Chorus performs a diverse repertoire of choral literature with an emphasis on American music.

Good to know: There is no audition to join. The focus is on music, growth, connection, and the joy of singing together.

Register for the next session

Registration is available online through the Dayton Celebration Chorus registration page. A paper registration option may also be available for those who prefer to print a form or register in person at the first rehearsal.

Current session listings include fee, dates, times, number of sessions, location, instructor, and available seats.

Rehearsals and performances

  • When: Tuesdays, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
  • Where: St. John’s Lutheran Church in downtown Dayton
  • Sessions: Fall, spring, and summer opportunities
  • Concerts: End-of-session concerts and additional community performances
Refund policy: Refunds for program registrations are available until the end of the day on the Friday following the second rehearsal. Refunds incur a $5.00 processing fee. All sheet music a member has received must be returned before a refund can be processed.

Chorus leadership

The Dayton Celebration Chorus is led by experienced musicians who support a welcoming, skill-building, and enjoyable choral experience.

Sue Jordon

Director

Sue Jordon is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Music, where she majored in music education and studied choral conducting.

During her 50-year career, Sue has directed choirs at many levels, including college, adult church, and children’s choirs. After moving to the Dayton area, she sang with the Dayton Celebration Chorus before being named director in 2022.

Sam Bennett

Accompanist

Sam Bennett is a professional pianist based in Dayton, Ohio. He is a collaborative pianist at Sinclair Community College, the music director at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Fairborn, and a piano teacher.

Sam earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Wittenberg University, studying performance across multiple piano genres as well as composition.
