Continuing Education Unit Approval

University departments and partner programs may request approval to offer Continuing Education Units for eligible non-credit workshops, trainings, conferences, institutes, and professional development programs.

CEUs provide participants with formal documentation of completed professional learning. All University of Dayton CEUs must be approved through the CEU application process before they may be advertised, offered, or issued.

Why offer CEUs?

CEUs can add value to non-credit educational offerings by helping learners document professional growth, employer-required training, career advancement activity, or continuing education participation.

  • Supports structured professional development and continuing education programs.
  • Provides participants with formal University documentation.
  • May strengthen marketing and enrollment for external learner audiences.
Best for: Programs where participants need formal continuing education documentation for professional, employer, or career records.

What approval requires

CEU approval confirms that the offering is planned as an organized learning experience with clear outcomes, appropriate instructional time, qualified instruction, completion requirements, and documentation of participant learning.

  • Clear, measurable learning outcomes.
  • Instructional/contact hours calculated accurately.
  • Assessment of learning and completion verification.
  • Program evaluation for participant feedback and improvement.
Timeline: Submit materials no fewer than four weeks before the planned offering.
